A new elixer from Pepsi, the Pepsi EX (for Extra), has launched exclusively in Japan. The 200 ml can contains twice the caffeine of a 500 ml bottle of Pepsi, to give a quick jolt with less trips to the bathroom.
According to a taste test, it was identical to regular Pepsi. The amount of caffeine is slightly less than coffee, but is still quite strong for a soda.
Energy drinks have become quite popular in the United States, and Red Bull has expanded their market to Japan as well, so this can be seen as Pepsi’s counterattack to uphold its market share. If Pepsi EX takes off, perhaps it’ll become the next drink of choice to fuel the giddiness of school girls.
