Evangelion phone launches exclusively in Japan

The folks at NERV, Sharp and NTT DoCoMo have created one slick phone, the limited NERV Edition SH-06D, which looks as if it came straight out of the anime. This heavily customized Android phone will be release in Japan at the end of the month, with pre-orders starting in about a week. Continue below for a promotional video of the phone’s main features, presented in NERV style.

A joint project of nearly three years, this cool Neon Genesis Evangelion phone features a customized outer shell to give an authentic look. The back of the case is also interchangeable with a second design if you ever get tired of the look. The OS is running the older Android 2.3 Gingerbread which is a bit disappointing, but it’s a true testament to how long the phone has been in development. Hopefully an update is on the way, but the many customizations like the glasses-free 3D launcher may delay its release. It’s also lacking a 3D camera, which seems like a missed opportunity since it has a 3D display.
